The Beginners Guide to Meditation

Meditation

It is not that difficult. Imagine just being at peace, floating in space, calmness and joy radiating from inside you.

The easiest way to achieve this state, is to start with breathing. This is something that we can control. The speed, the depth, the way we do it. Usually breathing would be automatic, but if we start paying attention to it, it can benefit us in so many ways.

Find a quiet place, sit or lie down in a comfortable position, close your eyes and start breathing. Try and breathe with your belly and not your chest. Imagine your lungs are balloons extending into your belly button and feel your belly expanding on the in breath and shrinking down with breathing out.

Breathing in through your nose, count to 4, then hold your breath for 7 counts, and then slowly breathe out through pursed lips to a count of 8.

Close your eyes and repeat this cycle for at least 4 times. By now you should actually start feeling your heartbeat slowing down and your body and mind feeling at peace.

Voila! You have successfully finished your first meditation session.
